‘I’m Thinking Of Ending Things’ By Iain Reid [Book Review]
I have to admit, I only picked up this book after seeing the trailer of its upcoming film adaptation. Apart from being wowed by the said trailer, I also read some comments claiming that this novel blew their minds. They weren’t wrong, after all. Upon finishing the book, all I could say was, “What the
‘Ang Nawawala’ Ni Chuckberry J. Pascual [Book Review]
Matagal ko na itong gustong basahin. Bukod kasi sa interesante ang premise ng mga kuwento sa koleksiyong ito, pakiramdam ko rin ay marami akong matututunan dito, lalo na pagdating sa pagkukuwento gamit ang Wikang Filipino. Kaya naman, noong magkaroon ng pagkakataon na bumili ng kopya sa Lazada bago pa man ang Aklatan 2020 online book
‘A Little Life’ By Hanya Yanagihara [Book Review]
I never thought a book could hurt me this much. I just can’t move on that I still think of its main characters as though they were real people and feel sad about their fate. “A Little Life” tells the story of four men who have been friends since their college days. They struggle with
‘Charged Volume 1’ Ni Siege Malvar [Book Review]
‘White Tears’ By Hari Kunzru [Book Review]
The first time I heard about the premise of this book, I got so scared that almost could not sleep. A white guy roams around New York recording all sorts of sounds from his surroundings. He’s a sound engineer and he intends to use his recordings in a project he’s working on. One time, while
‘I See You’ By Clare Mackintosh [Book Review]
This is another creepy yet exciting book. The story begins when Zoe, a middle-aged woman, sees her photo in the ad section of a local newspaper. It seems like an ad for a dating site, except the provided website URL and phone number do not seem to work. Zoe tells her family and close friends
‘Convenience Store Woman’ By Sayaka Murata [Book Review]
This book tells a really interesting story about Keiko Furukura, a woman who has worked for the same convenience store for 18 years. She knows how strange her life has been, and she’s okay with it. She has never been in a relationship, and she doesn’t have a lot of friends, either. Her life has
‘Bird Box’ By Josh Malerman [Book Review]
I first learned about this book while listening to an episode of a podcast called “All The Books” sometime in 2017. It was a scary book, according to the hosts, so it immediately piqued my curiosity. The book is about Malorie and her unique journey to the unknown in a post-apocalyptic setting. She is a
‘The Vegetarian’ By Han Kang [Book Review]
This novella has three parts: “The Vegetarian,” “Mongolian Mark,” and “Flaming Trees.” “The Vegetarian” focuses on Yong-hye, who decides to stop eating meat after having a nightmare. Her husband finds this sudden dietary change weird and even gets mad at her for her decision. He tries to get his in-laws involved, hoping this will change
‘Wonder Boys’ By Michael Chabon [Book Review]
This novel is so close to my heart. Besides the fact that it’s a book by Michael Chabon, an author I’ve been obsessed with these past few years, its story also focuses on a writer who, for seven years, has been trying to finish his latest novel. I have to admit, though, that this protagonist
